Research, Articles, and Essays on AI, Ethics, and Human Society
Our central hub for writing on how AI is reshaping human life and how it should be governed. We publish across a range of forms, including policy analysis, essays on AI ethics and values, and reflections on the philosophy of AI and human connection, all grounded in a shared commitment to human dignity and agency.
Step 1: Identify the gap, and put it into words.
Our writing ranges from formal policy research to more personal essays. Some pieces examine concrete gaps in law and practice, such as how people can challenge automated decisions or how digital services exclude those who need them most. Others take up broader questions: what we owe one another in an age of intelligent machines, how AI changes the way we think, relate, and connect, and which human values are worth protecting as the technology advances. We see these as parts of one inquiry, because good governance depends on a clear understanding of what is at stake for people. Each piece aims to be rigorous enough for experts to engage with and clear enough for any reader to follow.

Where it all began:
Our founding inquiry
YAFI began with a question: as AI reshapes society, what does it mean to remain human? Founder Ethan Ha’s paper, The “Human” Future: Principles of Human-AI Coevolution, was a first attempt at an answer. It proposed principles for an AI future grounded in human agency, dignity, and responsibility.
The paper is more exploratory than our current work. Its core values still guide us, now in more concrete forms such as policy proposals, rights-based advocacy, and community programs. We welcome readers to engage with it and question it.

Further research by our members/students
Besides AI work, our members globally, from Indonesia, Germany, etc. actively engage in independent research in their primary fields and subjects such as economics, psychology, etc. These ideas and knowledge contribute in shaping YAFI's interdisciplinary philosophy.
