The ones who lead the change

At our institute, founded by Ethan Ha, we consist of youth. We consist of high school students, with the Birthplace being Gyeonggi Suwon International School (GSIS), who are inspired to make a difference in the world by sharing their thoughts and being activists on AI to the world.

We believe that ideas on society, enough articulation and discipline, as well as global cooperation, can result in a positive intellectual and cultural movement (in AI), aiming to become as salutary and thought-provoking as the Enlightenment, Renaissance, and the Liberalism movement, etc.

AI is on its extremely speedy, adventurous ride. The world's current endeavor to rapidly advance a new type of intelligence and compete with other companies and countries leads to perpetual innovation and breakthroughs. Still, it poses a significant risk of misleading humanity to an irreversible, catastrophic outcome in many domains through the loss of humanness, human roles, and clarity in the progress.

The current misaligned AI progress and neglect of societal, value-related development make us very vulnerable and unprepared in a society in which almost all labor will be able to be replaced by "superhuman" AI models. In a world where, from a provincial and short-sighted economic standpoint, humans are negligible and seemingly unimportant, how can we make sure we stay important and human, if not more human and flourishing than ever before?

That is why we, a group of purely passion-driven students, decided to take action in making a significant, palpable impact on society by elevating the underrepresented future vision of Human-AI coevolution and Rehumanization (= advocacy of human values and roles in the AI age & encouraging Human-In-The-Loop mandation).

In fact, the goal of YAFI is to initiate an intellectual movement that establishes a collective consciousness (=awareness and consensus) on the importance of critical human values and human dignity/worth in our AI contributed society and emphasize the need for serious AI politics and human peace making. Since we know that if no values are cultivated, no new societal adaptations are made, humans don't enlighten, and remain stagnant in a world of AI-induced change and civilizational shift, human dignity will be lost, humans will likely be excluded from societal growth and collaboration with AI, and lose control, which raise serious concerns of safety, ethics, sustainability of AI, and possible intense backlashes that could have been mitigated when we had prepared the values and necessary sociopolitical progresses.

Problem and Mission statement

Being grateful for the journey

As young visionaries and inspirers, we are constantly striving to gain new insights, try out new things, take risks, and achieve challenging missions, knowing we have nothing to lose but only experiences and memories to gain. We act according to our coevolutionary belief: A big component of humans' purpose is the building and experiencing of the process, story, and the journey.
